The annual Books for Kids campaign has begun! You can help kids in need in Western New York with your donations of new books. The Books for Kids campaign's goal is to collect books, so all WNY area children can enjoy the gift of reading.

The Books for Kids campaign drive runs from April 29 through May 19. There will be an onsite LIVE donation drive on Friday, May 5 at Wegmans, located at 5275 Sheridan Drive in Williamsville, from 6 am – 12 noon.

2023 marks the twenty-seventh year of this noteworthy community literacy campaign, founded by Project Flight local educators Dr. Geraldine Bard and Dr. Elizabeth Cappella. Books for Kids has distributed over three million books to children in over 2,845 schools and agencies since 1995.

Between now and May 19, 2023, you can donate a new book at all Wegmans locations in Erie and Niagara counties, all 37 Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries, all Paula's Donuts locations, and The Buffalo News at Washington and Scott Streets.

This year's Books for Kids donation drive is sponsored by Project Flight, Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries, Wegmans, Buffalo State University, The Buffalo News, WGRZ TV Channel 2 and Townsquare Media - WYRK, WBLK, WBUF and WMSX.

You can donate new books To Books For Kids at the following locations:

  • All Wegmans in Erie & Niagara counties
  • All Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries
  • The Buffalo News, 726 Exchange Street, Buffalo
  • Paula's Donuts locations
  • Tom’s Restaurant, 3221 Sheridan Drive, Amherst

Donations to purchase books for children with special needs are also welcome and will be used to buy Braille, large-print and other specialized books.
