Several cities in the Empire State have been having issues with bugs, pests, and rodents. Whether it's roaches, bed bugs, or rats, cities all over the state have been taking steps to try and fight against these vermin.

Things are so bad that multiple cities in New York have once again made Orkin's Rattiest Cities list, and, unfortunately, things in a few particular neighborhoods in Buffalo don't seem to be improving.

According to an investigation by the Buffalo News, the rat problems in five Buffalo neighborhoods are bad, and one in particular is even worse.

Buffalo's First Ward, Broadway Fillmore, Genesee-Moselle, and the Fruit Belt neighborhoods are all in bad shape with the MLK Park neighborhood being the worst among them all.

The Buffalo News investigation found two main contributors to Buffalo's rat problem: poor trash and waste management and the inability to isolate rodent points of entry. Given that rats have plenty of food to eat and all sorts of great places to live, it's no wonder the problem is exploding across the city.

Buffalo, which has long had a problem with people from the suburbs coming into the city to dump trash illegally, is taking steps to reduce the problem; it just doesn't appear to be enough. Residents have complained for years, along with submitted requests for assistance to various departments of the City and county, however the problems persist.

Buffalo's Clean Sweep program routinely blitzs neighborhoods that need assistance, but with Buffalo having thousands of vacant and abandoned properties spread around the city, more needs to be done.
