Buffalo Doggy Daycare Worker Sentenced To Jail For Beating Dog To Death

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced that a Buffalo man was sentenced yesterday, Wednesday, November 30, 2022, before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller. The 26-year-old man will serve 6 months in jail and 5 years of probation for the deadly beating. Jarrod Dillman pleaded guilty to one felony count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals on November 6, 2019. He is also prohibited from owning a pet or caring for any animals for the next 5 years.

Dillman, who was working as an attendant at a doggy daycare on Niagara Street in Buffalo killed a dog in his care on Saturday, August 3, 2019. A three-year-old Havanese mix was killed after Dillman repeatedly kicked the dog and threw it against a wall. The dog, “Alessio,” died due to blunt force trauma according to a necropsy.

Dillman Attempted To Rob A Bank After Pleading Guilty

On November 7, 2019, the day after he pleaded guilty, Dillman tried to rob a bank. Just before 2:30 pm, he entered a bank on Elmwood Avenue near Breckenridge Street in Buffalo. He went up to the teller with a note directing the teller to give him money and not to call the police. The teller refused to give Dillman any money and he left the bank. He pleaded guilty to one felony count of Attempted Robbery on February 10, 2020. After completing a diversion program, the charge against him was reduced and Dillman was sentenced to 3 years of probation, which will run concurrent to his sentence in the animal cruelty case.

Unfortunately, Erie County does not have an animal abuse registry, which keeps track of convicted abusers. Several other counties in Western New York do though. You can see below.
