One of the sure tell-tale signs that spring has sprung in Buffalo and Western New York is when we see thousands of people descend into the Elmwood Village to stand and sit on the lawn of different houses to watch live music and spoken word being performed from the porches of different people's houses.
One of the favorite homegrown music events was back again this year and even some serious rain earlier in the day did not stop Buffalo Porchfest 2023 being a good time. This years edition did not disappoint one bit.
What Is Porchfest?
What started in Ithaca, New York in 2007, has taken the country by storm and in typically Buffalo fashion, we have made it one of the biggest events of the year.
According to Front Porch Ideas, Porchfests are special music festivals that are held from the front porches in neighborhoods that encourage to stroll the area, meet their neighbors, make new friends, and frequent businesses in the neighborhoods that they are visiting. People are also able to get up close and personal to some of the bands in the local area that are bubbling in the area.
In Buffalo, Porchfest takes place in the Elmwood Village Neighborhood and typically takes over the entire area. According to the Elmwood Village Association, Porchfest started in Buffalo in 2013, and this years event featured more than 150 different bands and artists who performed on 76 different 'porches' all around the Elmwood Village, along with porches in the Upper Westside, Bryant, and Allentown Neighborhoods.
