A New York State Police Trooper found himself in a scary situation after helping a driver who was overdosing. The incident happened on Thursday, January 12, 2023. NYSP Troopers were on the Wantagh State Parkway in Hempstead, NY, trying to save a driver's life, according to CBS News.

According to the Narcan website, it is a medicine that can help reverse the effects of an opioid drug overdose,

NARCAN® Nasal Spray is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose emergency with signs of breathing problems and severe sleepiness or not being able to respond.

The bodycam footage below shows Troopers trying to save the life of a driver, who was believed to have been suffering from an opioid overdose. Just a few moments later, a Trooper started having symptoms from exposure to the opioid. The Trooper was given Narcan to help reverse the effects of the drug. Both the trooper and the driver survived and are ok. However, the driver is facing drug charges, so there's that.

In New York State, Naloxone, which is sold under the brand name Narcan, is legal for purchase,

New York State law allows anyone who has received training at a pharmacy or community program to carry
and use naloxone. Additionally, the New York State 911 Good Samaritan Law provides substantial protection to
anyone calling 911 to save a life, even if drugs are present at the scene of the overdose.
