New York Police Responding To Reports Of Active School Shooters
The New York State Police released a statement today on the heels of several reports of active shooters are area schools across New York State.
The State Police issued a statement saying they are aware of the reports, but all those reports are unfounded and that no active threats occurred at any school in the state.
The State police said the threat of active shooters at area schools was a form of swatting. Swatting is defined as someone who uses some using caller ID spoofing to disguise their number with the goal to get authorities, to respond to an address for an emergency. The goal is to get a SWAT team to respond, hence the term swatting. There have been reports of swatting at area schools all through the state including in the state capital Albany.
If caught, swatters face a slew of local, state, and federal charges.
