Freezing Rain and Snow are heading to Western New York.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a hazardous weather outlook for all of Western New York from Wednesday until Friday.

A storm system is expected to bring freezing rain and snow to Western New York starting tomorrow night and all day on Thursday. Thursday is expected to be the worst day of the week, weather-wise.

Light snow is expected to move into Western New York on Wednesday afternoon and that could have an impact on the commute home. That snow will be joined by freezing rain on Wednesday evening and overnight.

Thursday we could be dealing with icy road conditions and heavy snowfall as well. The snow totals which were first reported at over 8 inches could be much less due to the mixing of rain and freezing rain.

The issue with the rain is that salt trucks can't/won't dump salt on the roads because it will be washed away, so the freezing rain could really have an impact on the roads on Thursday.

The good news is that if you have plans to go out on Friday for Valentine's Day, there should be some relief from the weather. While temperatures will remain in the 20s, the snow and rain should be East enough to make the commute around the area not as bad as Thursday.

There is a slight chance of snow Friday overnight into Saturday morning but it will be more of a dusting to an inch or two.
