Hochul Says These People Not Paid Enough in New York State
The governor made it clear that these people need more pay, and they need it now.
Like most states, New York has its haves and have-nots. A few people make a lot of money, while most people live paycheck to paycheck. The average salary in the state is just under $43,000 (Data Commons) for an individual. That's not bad compared to the rest of the nation, as New York is ranked 13th in median income.
Still, taxes and the cost of living are very high for those downstate in New York City and the immediate areas surrounding it. With the state of the economy nationwide, every dime counts. New York Governor Kathy Hochul is demanding these people get their fair share.

In a public address today, Governor Hochul demanded that women get equal pay
Women only make, on average, $.87 of every dollar a man makes. It's shocking that in 2025, this remains a major issue nationwide, let alone in New York. More shocking is that women of color can earn as low as $.60 of every dollar a man earns. The governor is hoping to change this and recognized the issue on Equal Pay Day.
Hochul did not offer any immediate solutions, but touted her record on the issue since taking office. You can learn more about what she has done and is doing by CLICKING HERE.
