Jake Owen has just released a new single, “American Country Love Song,” and to celebrate he decided to record a cover of one of his favorite love songs, “Close Enough to Perfect” by Alabama. Owen appears solo in a video from iHeart Radio, playing an electric guitar and crooning the sentimental tune he says he grew up listening to.

“Love me some Alabama,” he comments before launching into the ballad, which celebrates a woman despite her little flaws here and there, declaring her “close enough to perfect for me."

Owen's performance is tender and romantic, enough to make any girl swoon. The original version was released in 1982 as the third single from Alabama’s album Mountain Music, and earned the band their eighth career No. 1 hit.

Owen’s new song is a tribute to all of the love songs, especially in country and Americana music, that shaped not only the genres but many of our lives growing up. Though he didn’t pen the song himself, Owen says it reflects a quality about country music he has always revered.

“One thing I’ve always loved about country music is the way it made me feel listening to it. From John Mellencamp to Kenny Chesney to Bob Seger, there’s an American thread in all of that, about growing up and falling in love and falling out of love,” Owen shares. “It’s kind of about one of those songs that always made you feel that way.”

Owen is set to perform at the 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival in Hunter Mountain, N.Y. in June.
