The weather is FINALLY starting to turn, so I popped into Runner's Roost with the kids to check out the new styles and colors for spring. This is the place to go if you're family's looking for everyday sandals that can go to the beach, waterpark and hiking with you — and that can be washed before heading out for more. (They might be great presents for the Easter Bunny to bring, too!)

They have a great selection of Tevas, Keen and OOfos for men, women and kids — which is great, because whenever we walk into the store Hank (my 2-1/2 year old) runs right over to the kids section. He knows right where it is and can't wait to look at all the cool shoes. The last time we were there, he REFUSED to let us leave until he got to try on a pair of boots.

Keen (pictured left) has a lot of options with toe protection and quick-dry webbed material, and all of them offer great support. Tevas (pictured right) have rubber outsoles for superior traction, easy on-and-off designs and quick drying materials. They come in leather, too.

I also love OOfos sandals, not only for wearing around town but as recovery support after a good run. As Runner's Roost staff explains: "The OOriginal sandal features revolutionary OOfoam technology that absorbs 37% more impact than traditional footwear foam materials to reduce the stress on your feet and joints." My less-technical explanation is they are super-comfy. :)

Runner's Roost has absolutely fabulous gear for runners, but they can help you with great-fitting, durable shoes no matter what you use them for. My whole family shops there (my wife got a new pair of UGG's there) and we trust the staff to take care of us.

Here are some of the things we found last week when we stopped by:

Runner's Roost

And, a reminder for all runners, Runner's Roost's weekly group run is now starting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays since it's staying lighter a little later. It’s really casual: Everyone meets at the store to tackle three to five miles throughout the village of Orchard Park. Runners with different pace levels are welcome, but those 16 and younger must have a parent run with them.
