It’s time for this week’s Hometown Hero, brought to you by Keller Chevrolet and Batavia Downs Gaming.  This week’s Hometown Hero is originally from West Seneca, NY.  It’s US Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Shawn Scanlon!

Shawn’s nomination came from Cara Brodfueher and said:

SSG Shawn Scanlon, just returned home from being deployed overseas in Kuwait with the 42nd combat aviation brigade of the New York Army National Guard . Like most veterans Shawn has sacrificed so much not only for his country but for his family. He doesn’t like to be called a "hero" but in mine and our children's eyes he's not seen as anything less than a hero. His determination and dedication is inspirational, Shawn makes you want to look at life the way he sees it, everything is an adventure and life lesson.

At the young age of 25 Shawn has reach the difficult position of Staff Sergeant in just a matter of 7years and is striving to reach higher goals with higher titles. He is supported by not only family but by many friends and co-workers as well. Shawn is a strong minded, talented soldier! He is looked up to by many fellow soldiers and two little ones who call him dad!

A big thank you goes out to Shawn for his dedication and to his family for their sacrifice too.  We are proud to call him this week’s Hometown Hero!

If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them on WYRK.com, but we’ll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.

Once again, thank you to US Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Shawn Scanlon, our Hometown Hero of the week!
