The Original Pancake House gave out 100 free fish fry dinners this Friday.

I recently went up to Lewiston and stopped into the Brickyard Brewing Company, side by side restaurants, one specializes in BBQ and the other for more traditional fare.

I've heard a lot of people from outside of Buffalo say that when they are in Western New York they have to have a fish fry. It would makes sense as Buffalo is an extremely Catholic community that bases their Friday traditions on Lent and giving up meat on Fridays...

I have to say that I have fallen in love with Western New York. After bouncing from one city to another I am very happy to have settled here in Buffalo. I think it helps that it reminds me so much of my home in northeast Ohio but it also has these wonderful traditions that you won't really find anywhere else...

It's Lent season! To commemorate the true meaning of the season, many Western New Yorkers participate by not eating meat on Fridays and even Wednesdays. So, bring on the fish fries! We are coming up on the last Friday of lent season and another great season of fish fries from across all of Western New York! From Strawberry Fields in Chaffee to the The Beach House in Grand Island we've had our share of great fries. I've always said that if you went to a different place around Western New York for a fish fry every week for the rest of your life you'd never be able to cover them all.  There are a lot of places that serve a delicious fish fry and I'm always looking for suggestions on new places to try.

Whether it's Lent or you're just in the mood, no one can resist a great fish fry.

Our thanks to chief Mike Emhof, Jr. and the entire crew at Lake Erie Beach Fire Department for their invitation to enjoy their Lenten fish fry.  Every Friday during Lent, they serve up an average of 500 fish fries each week, and Clay and I agreed it's one of the best around.

There are so many things unique to Buffalo, especially its food. People who move away crave things like beef on weck and genuine Buffalo chicken wings. Out of towners say yeah you can get wings elsewhere, but they just taste better here. And another thing not necessarily unique to Buffalo is the Friday fish fry.
