It was quite a night for Buffalo Sabres captain Brian Gionta.  Before their game with the Florida Panthers the Sabres honored Gionta for playing in his 1,000th NHL game and with his wife and kids along with his mom and dad looking on the team presented him with a silver hockey stick and a piece of artwork depicting him during a game.

We had seen this same Buffalo Sabres movie before, but this time it had a much better ending.  The Sabres won their first home game of the season on Saturday, taking a 3-0 lead and holding on for a 3-0 win over the Florida Panthers.

No team in the National Hockey League does it better than the Buffalo Sabres; lose games at home.  Tuesday night's sorry 7-4 loss to the Florida Panthers at First Niagara Center was decided in the first period when the Panthers built a 3-0 lead and extended it to 4-0 in the first minute of the second period.

Game after game the Buffalo Sabres keep proving they have a long way to go to compete with the big boys.  Despite an upgrade in talent the results are pretty much the same as the past two seasons and it's pretty discouraging for Sabres fans expecting a whole lot more to get a whole lot less.

For only the third time this season, the Sabres have a winning streak. Yeah, ok, it’s only two games but you have to start somewhere. The Sabres closed out a two-game sweep in Florida with a 4-3 shootout win over the Florida Panthers. Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville scored in the shootout while Ryan Miller stopped both shots he faced in the shootout and 40 for the game.

Another sellout crowd trudged out of HSBC Arena Thursday night, disappointed again by the cast of characters we know as the Buffalo Sabres.  For the second time in less than a week against the Florida Panthers they failed to show up in the first period and it cost them another game at home 4-3.  A much better effort in 2nd period tied the game at 3-all, but these guys just can't buy a goal when th

What a bunch of thieves.  The Sabres stole their paychecks in a 6 to 2 loss to the Florida Panthers Friday night.  They obviously weren't ready to play in the first period.   They were down 1-nothing after less than two minutes and 4-nothing after the first period.
