Agreement Reached for WNY’s Longest Rail Trail
The Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail announced that they have finally reached an agreement and can move forward on the 27-mile long rail trail. The ECRT sign at 49-year lease with an option of 50 more years, giving the ECRT the opportunity to build a multi-use trail that will run from Ashford in Cattaraugus County to Orchard Park in Erie County.
In a press release B&PRR Marketing Director, Kevin Bowser stated of the ECRT,
“They value our railroad history, the natural attributes of the corridor, and the outstanding recreation and economic potential the trail will bring to the community.”
Work immediately began on the 27-mile trail; right now they are focused on securing funding, meeting with municipal county and state leaders, and meeting with landowners located near the trial to make sure all concerns are met.
The Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail will need plenty of volunteers as the project moves forward and hopes they will receive the community support in both monetary and physically. Keep updated on the project and how you can help HERE.
