Sad news for the bar and restaurant business in Buffalo on Monday, as a longtime staple said goodbye for good.

According to WGRZ, the Washington Square Bar & Grill will not reopen.

Owners Vincent and Misty Spano are putting the building up for sale, asking for $575,000. It's a four-story building that's been around since 1890.

The Washington Bar & Grill have been open since 1967.

One of the great draws of the establishment was its proximity to sporting events. It's next to Sahlen Field and a short distance from the Key Bank Center. It's hosted many fans and concert-goers over the years.

The COVID-19 pandemic was the reason the bar closed down. According to owner Vincent Spano, the decision to sell the restaurant was made with a heavy heart.

I hate to see local bars and restaurants closing down due to the pandemic.

Support the local restaurant and bars when you can over the next few weeks and months when you can.
