The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Madison County.on Wednesday afternoon during a round of severe weather. The tornado touched down just before 2 pm on Wednesday and was on the ground for around 2 minutes.

It traveled just under a mile and had peak wind speeds of 79 miles per hour. The tornado was rated an EF0.

13 Tornados Confirmed In New York State

The tornado this week was the 13th confirmed tornado so far this year in New York State. This year is now considered an above-average year for tornadoes in the state. On average. New York State will have 8 to 12 tornadoes a year.

If not near a shelter, try to find low ground like in a ditch or ravine. Don't try to outrun a tornado in a car.
