The Buffalo Bills are happy with their 2022 NFL Draft selections. General manager Brandon Beane got his cornerback in round one, Kaiir Elam from the University of Florida.

The Bills also drafted running back James Cook out of Georgia and also took wide receiver Khalil Shakir out of Boise State. Beane also selected the “Punt God,” aka, punter Matt Araiza out of San Diego State in round six.

Going back to the pick of Elam, the Bills traded from pick 25 to pick 23 to select the long and athletic corner from Florida.

Beane mentioned after the fact that Elam was their final first round grade left by that point and made it a point to get ahead of the Dallas Cowboys to take him.

The Bills only had to give up a 4th round pick to move to 23 but as it turns out, Beane tried to move up sooner than that.

According to Michael Silver’s piece with Bally Sports, Beane confirmed that he tried to work out a trade with the Green Bay Packers at pick 22.

Beane was able to trade with the Ravens for pick 23 however. The Bills had to sweat it out but they got their man.

What’s also interesting in this piece from Silver is the Bills tried rigorously to trade up to both pick 4 and pick 5 in the 2018 NFL Draft to draft Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen. The Bills wanted either Allen or Baker Mayfield, who went number one to Cleveland, so the Bills came dangerously close not securing their franchise QB.
