I'm a guy who really truly does have a great respect for all genres of music.  I like at least something from just about every type of music you can imagine.  But whatever happened to awards shows showcasing the type of music that the awards represent?

The Academy of Country Music has its awards show coming up on April 3rd.  According to Country Weekly , one of the acts announced involves a duet with Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland and pop star Rihanna.

It's not the first time that country has mixed with a different genre.  Historically, the mix seems to do well.  Jennifer Nettles had a #1 with Jon Bon Jovi called, "Who Says You Can't Go Home."  Tim McGraw had a top ten with rapper Nelly.  What do you think?  Do you like to see the crossover acts like this?

The only thing I don't like about this is that so many young country stars wait in the wings to showcase their talents on an awards show, and they're giving that spotlight away to someone else.  We have plenty of talent in the country music world.  This is their chance to shine!

I mean no disrespect to Rihanna.  They'll be singing a song called "California King Bed."   It's a good song and Rihanna does a great job with it.  I can definitly imagine the song being redone by a country artist.  It's certainly already creating a buzz.
