EZ Pass Required For Trailers In New York State?
The busy summer travel season is here and across New York State people are heading to fun places and vacation destinations. If you are on the New York State Thruway, you will be charged tolls and it is recommended that you have an EZ Pass account.
The Thruway is busy these days with campers and other trailers. You may wonder, do I need a separate EZ pass for my trailer in New York State? The answer to that question depends on what you haul and how often you are hauling it.
There are specific EZ Pass plans for those who haul bigger trailers like a mobile home or horse trailer.

If you are hauling a camper, there is a special tag/discount that you can apply for from EZ Pass. According to a post on the EZ Pass website: "Proof of motor home registration is required to receive the special motorhome discount. Motorhomes will receive the passenger vehicle rate based on the number of axles on the motorhome. If you are towing you may be eligible for a special discount towing tag".
As far as hauling another type of trailer, like a 5th wheel car trailer, there is a specific discount as well. "Pickup truck towing a “5th Wheel” or “Gooseneck” trailer will receive a discounted rate. The Tag is programmed for the tow vehicle and trailer. The Tag must only be used with the vehicle towing combination".
Keep in mind, if you don't have an EZ Pass, a bill will be sent to whatever address is on file based on the license plate and registration information when you pass under the detection zones on the Thruway.
