Famous Weather Phenomenon Taking Place In Western New York?
There is a famous weather phenomenon that could take place in Western New York this week.
The cold air is not budging this month and across New York State the snow has been flying. In fact, there are some portions of New York that have received several feet of lake effect snow and the machine is still cranking.
But here in the Buffalo area, we are waiting to see the next even the Old Man Winter and Mother Nature have planned.
As we enter the last week of January, the forecast is calling for a major wind storm that is expected to bring wind speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour at times.
It may be hard to believe, but there is a weather alert that was posted warning of potential lake shore flooding! Considering the fact that Lake Erie is mostly frozen, this is very interesting.
When the winds force the waves to climb in height, there is a threat for some spray and splash hitting the banks and shores of the lake along Route Five south of Buffalo. This poses an icing threat that makes things very dangerous and tricky to navigate and manage.
Below is a photo of the ice that forms after the water spray hits the frigid air and settles on objects near by.
The cold air will be here through the week and the winds could cause power issues as we see the gusts surge Monday afternoon.
