The forecast is calling for a cooler day with plenty of rain and that rain might be heavy in portions of New York State. It is bittersweet as some areas could use the rain but certainly don't need the danger of flooded roadways.

The month of July will come to a close with a good deal of rain as the heat and humidity take a backseat to cooler air, for now. It sure felt great to walk outside and feel the cooler air before work Thursday morning and it was a solid reminder that the fall is really not that far away!

The National Weather Service reminds you to be ready and alert and never drive through a flooded area.

Nearly a half of a foot of rain could fall in some portions of the state as is indicated by a recent post from the National Weather Service in Albany, New York.

"A period of rain is expected Thursday into early Friday with the potential for heavy rainfall for areas mainly south of Albany, where 1 to 3 inches of rain could fall with locally higher amounts of 3 to 5 inches".

This is a steady, but brief period of rain, as things will be much cooler and drier for the weekend before the next round of summer weather returns to the Empire State. In Western New York, there are dozens of events that are planned for the first weekend of August. From County Fairs, to festivals and tractor pulls, there is plenty to do and explore outdoors this weekend!
