Goodbye To Popular Craft Stores In New York State
It seems we are getting stories about stores closing on a regular basis these days and a popular craft store in New York State is the most recent.
We are only a couple of months in to 2025 and the economy still seems to be trying to rebound. As retailers check the numbers after the last Holiday shopping season, many are finding it hard to stay alive.
Is it online shopping that is making the difference?

According to multiple reports, many Joann Fabrics will be closing their doors soon.
A recent report from USA Today says, "The retailer told USA TODAY in a statement Wednesday that it would be closing "approximately 500" of its roughly 850 locations across the U.S. The news comes after the company filed for bankruptcy a second time in less than a year in January after initially filing and then going private in March 2024".
New York will see 24 stores close and there are six locations in the Western New York area that will be closing as well.
We have been shopping at Joann Fabrics for years! For kids craft and decorations, it was always nice to stroll in. We also shop at the local Hobby Lobby in our area.
Here in Western New York, not far from the Joann Fabrics that is closing, we are losing a number of Big Lots stores as well.
While online shopping is huge these days, we try to shop at local stores as much as we can. For pet food and hardware, we always choose the local stores first. Pricing may be a little more expensive, but the customer service seems to be better and the locally owned stores are more convenient in many cases.
