Today, Governor Andrew Cuomo made a variety of announcements that New York'ers have been waiting for, including those here in Western New York.

Cuomo announced that starting on Wednesday, the state would adopt the CDC's new guidance on mask and social distancing for vaccinated people.

Those new guidelines say that those who are vaccinated can stop wearing masks and not have to operate social distancing in many circumstances, however there are places masks must still be worn.

Another major announcement was Governor Cuomo announcing that county fairs across the state can open with 6-foot social distancing. That means the Erie County Fair can open this summer and return after not happening in 2020. The Fair would need to announce they're opening, however, and will likely make that final decision soon.

The Erie County Fair said they had been waiting for the guidelines from the state before making a decision to have the event this August at the Hamburg Fairgrounds.

In order for county fairs to open, they must get a permit from the local Department of Health. For events over 5,000 people, they must get NYS Department of Health approval. Private operators and government-owned venues can issue guidelines.

The Erie County Fair has not made an announcement yet, and based on these guidelines, they would need to seek local and state approval, but they can open this summer with 6-foot distancing.

Fingers crossed, but this announcement is what we have been waiting for and now we wait to here from the Erie County Fair!
