Why Buffalo Bills’ Greg Rousseau Was Named AFC Defensive Player Of The Month
We've gotten pretty accustomed to hearing players like Josh Allen be recognized by the league as the AFC Player of the week or month. But this month, it's a player on the other side of the ball getting the recognition.
Greg Rousseau has had an incredible start to the year
In the offseason, there was a lot of talk about what the Buffalo Bills' new defense would look like with Jim Leonhard calling the shots. For years, they've been under the watchful eye of Sean McDermott who ran a 4-3. Leonard said right away that he would be changing things up and running a 3-4 which was going to change the way the edge rushers would play.
It's been a huge difference for Greg Rousseau. With two sacks in every game so far, he's already logged 6. He's on pace right now to get 34. Will he be able to keep up at this pace? Probably not, but he's already having a much more productive year than he has in the past.
Right now he's leading the NFL in sacks, sack yards lost, tackles for loss, and he's tied for the lead for QB hits and forced fumbles.
Rousseau has been named Defensive Player of the Month
Congrats to Roussau who has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for the month of September.
Teams are going to have to plan around him
The good news is that teams are now going to have to make their plans around where Rousseau is on the field. They'll have to account for him, which in theory should open other players up to make some plays. Whether that's defensive tackles Deone Walker and Ed Oliver or someone like Bradley Chubb on the other side of the line, it should give them an opportunity to start making more plays up front.
Rousseau and the Bills will get another shot to add more sacks to that total as they take on the New England Patriots this Sunday at Highmark Stadium.
