A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Buffalo for much of the Northern part of Western New York.

The heat advisory is in place for Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Monroe and Northern Erie Counties today from 11 am until 7 pm.

The heat index in those counties could end up being in the triple digits and if you are outside or in a place that doesn't have air conditioning, heat-related illnesses could happen.

If you do have to be outside today during the day, you will need to take precautions to protect yourself. Drink lots of fluids, find shady places to cool down in and wear lightweight and loose clothing if possible. Also, make sure to check on your neighbors and co-workers espcailly if they do not have air conditioning.

The good news is that we will see a bit of a cooldown as we get past today. Heading into the weekend we will high temps in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Thursday we are looking at a high of only 79 and then near 83 on Friday. If you are headed out to the Bills preseason game against Green Bay on Saturday at Highmark Stadium, it should be a good night for football. There will be mostly sunny skies with a high near 82. Perfect weather for kid's day at the Bills game.

Stay cool today and hopefully we will be done with the dog days of Summer soon.
