Anyone who grew up in Upstate New York likely had the obligatory school field trip to Howe Caverns, the most popular show cave in all of New York.

The massive cave in Schoharie County, New York is popular for tourists due to its easy accessibility and beautiful limestone walls. In recent years, it’s been known for even more obscure and interesting events– but 2024 will be the final year you can partake in its most notorious one.

Final Naked In A Cave Event At Howe Caverns In New York State

For five years in a row, Howe Caverns has hosted a surprising occasion to promote body positivity, where visitors are allowed to tour the amazing sans clothes. However, after this September, visitors will never again be able to tour the incredible cave in the nude.

The sixth and final “Naked In A Cave” excursion will be held on Saturday, September 28th. For $85 (plus tax) per person, visitors will have the opportunity to take a stroll through the wondrous Howe Caverns completely in the buff.

Additional amenities like cookies and cocoa will be provided during the 1.25 mile walk, and dinner, an art class, and a comedy show from Steve Van Zant are available to attendees at an additional cost.

We’re not going to lie, the event sounds a little risky (Frolicking in the nude around all of that rock? Yikes). And, frankly, considering the event is held in late September, it might be, uh, cold. But if you’ve ever wanted to take a tour of one of New York State’s greatest wonders while completely naked, you’ve better get on it.

Tickets are limited to 350 guests, and as  April Islip, general manager of Howe Caverns, told the Albany Times Union,

“We just feel it’s time to move on and try something else.”
