Implosion Today At This Famous Western New York Building
There is an implosion that is planned for today that has caught the attention of many in Western New York.
There are some buildings and structures in the Western New York area that you might use as a guide or landmark that you use when you travel or give directions. When that landmark is gone, it sure is weird!
But this week's planned implosion has caused many to wonder what, if any, consequences might be waiting when the building comes down.
According to a press release and statement, "The smoke stack at Lake Mariner Data Center (the old Power Plant on Lake Road) is scheduled to be demolished on January 14th at 8AM. Please view the attached FAQ for details".

The implosion information was passed on to us by an employee and source close to the event. However the statement also warns area residents about what to expect.
It would be neat to see this take place and check back here for any further details and photos or videos from the event.
I remember seeing these off in the distance when we would fish on Lake Ontario. The flashing lights were always a beacon helping us determine where we were and how far we had drifted.
The Somerset Stack, at Lake Mariner Data Center, currently stands at 613 feet high and will be gone in a matter of seconds when the implosion happens. I recall being in downtown Buffalo when they imploded the old Gates Circle Hospital and the boom was powerful even miles away!
Be safe if you are in the area and thank you to the officials are monitoring the situation.
