If you are hoping to have the "Hallmark" moment this Christmas where you have a special long-awaited kiss as the snow starts to fall on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning, you might have to head out of state.

For the most part, much of New York State has been under the average snowfall this year and with an "El Nino" impacting the weather system, it looks like we could end up having a green Christmas in the "Empire State"

This isn't a big surprise as most long-range weather forecasts have called for a much milder and wetter December. Here is what the Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting for the rest of the month.

DatesWeather Conditions
Dec 19-23Sunny, chilly
Dec 24-27Rainy, warm
Dec 28-31Snow and rain; cold, then warm
Decembertemperature 43° (2° above avg.)
precipitation 5.5" (2" above avg.)

As you can see we are looking at above-average temperatures for the rest of the month with more rain than snow expected before and during Christmas.

Of course, you just never know and storms can pop up out of nowhere, especially if you live in a lake-effect snow area. The temperature of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario remain above freezing so again that increases the risk of Lake Effect snow.

Check out some photos from last year's winter storm that hit Western New York near Christmas.
