J.D. McKissic Changes His Mind and Ditches Bills

One day after it was reported by ESPN senior NFL inside Adam Schefter that the Bills intend to sign former Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic to a two-year contract with $7 million, that could be worth up to $8 million dollars, the running back had a change of heart.

It is now being reported that the free-agent running back is heading back to the Washington Commanders for a deal that matches what he was to get in Buffalo.

The 28 year old running back had played the last two seasons with the Washington Commanders, and also has had stops in Detroit and Seattle in his career since coming into the league as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016. McKissic would have been a great fit in the Buffalo offense, as he hauled in 43 passes last year, and 80 passes in 2020.

Why the change of heart?

According to Schefter and Mckissic's agents Doug Hendrickson and CJ LaBoy, the Commanders initially did not offer McKissic a deal at the start of the free agency tampering period.  An offer eventually came in from Washington, but it was after he had agreed to terms to come to Buffalo. Once the running back heard that the Commanders were not only willing to offer him a deal, but match what he was going to get with the Bills, he didn't want to leave Washington.

So, that puts the Bills back in the free-agent market to upgrade the Running Back position.  Free Agency officially starts today (March 16th) at 4 pm, in conjunction with the start of the new NFL league year.
