Is New Head Coach Joe Brady Too Easy On His Players?

Training camp is underway at St. John Fisher College in Rochester and we're getting a glimpse into what this new Buffalo Bills team will be. Some people are worried that new head coach Joe Brady is too easy on them.

It feels like coaches are described in two ways. They're either old school "my way or the highway" disciplinarian coaches, or they're what they call players coaches. After a comment made by one of his players, some people are saying that Joe Brady might be a little to easy on them.

Alec Anderson compares Joe Brady to the "fun uncle"

Buffalo Bills lineman Alec Anderson raised some eyebrows when he was asked what it was like with Joe Brady at the helm because he compared him to the "fun uncle." He says it's like when your parents are gone and your fun uncle lets you do some of the things that they won't.

Those comments by Anderson earned some more critical ones in the comment section. Most fans seemed to agree that a coach shouldn't be a player's best friend, and that a team needs discipline to see success.

Joe Brady responds to the "fun uncle" title

While talking with Kay Adams, Joe Brady specifically responded to the "fun uncle" title that he's been given.

I love that he said he's trying to be a little bit of both. He still aims to maintain discipline on his team, but he's trying to get to know his players so that he can connect with them too.

DJ Moore responds to the "fun uncle" title too

New Buffalo Bills receiver DJ Moore has already played for Joe Brady when they were both in Carolina. He says that while it's fun when it needs to be, he's all business when he needs to be too.

People who think Brady is too soft with his players haven't ever had a coach like him. They're used to hard-nosed people who don't take anything from their players. But he's not dealing with high school kids. He's dealing with grown men. Does that mean he's not going to have differences with people? Probably not.  He's probably going to have some ups and downs with his first attempt at being a head coach, and time will tell how his method works.

The Bills haven't even played one preseason game yet! Can we wait just a minute to let the guy coach?

Honestly, I wasn't a big fan when they decided to move on from coach McDermott. However, at this point in the season, I've liked just about everything Brady has said since he's been hired. I'm excited to see what he can do with this team.
