Love To Hunt In New York State? Look For This Today

While it might not feel like it this week, hunting season is not that far away and here in New York State, there is good news arriving in mailboxes! If you love to hunt, check your mail!

The weather forecast is calling for it to be very hot this week followed by a couple of cool days as we start the month of August! It won't be long before we are watching the leaves change colors and the cold air move in.

It is an exciting time for those of us who love to hunt and our Lifetime Licenses are coming to the house.

I have been hunting more than 30 years and can't wait for the next season to start. My daughter, Willie, and I walked to the mailbox this week and were more than excited to open the 2025-26 licenses!

The general license sale will start in just a few days. If you plan to apply for doe tags, that will also open soon. But if you don't have a Lifetime License yet, it is a great way to ensure that you get hunting licenses every year and you won't have to pay for it annually!

If you have little ones at home, there is a discounted price to purchase their license as well. It is a great gift idea for kids and is relatively affordable as you spend the cash once and they have it forever!

In addition to having the hunting licenses, you can also get a plate for the car. The DEC says: "If you hold a sporting / recreational license purchased from DEC, you can choose any of the 6 I LOVE NY Hunting or Fishing plates. If you hold an Empire Passport from Parks, you may choose any of the 3 I LOVE NY Parks custom plates".
