Massive Computer Breach Could Impact New York State Taxpayers

There is an investigation that is underway involving the United States Treasury Department.

Early on Tuesday, December 31st, the alert was sent that a computer breach has occurred.

According to reports, Chinese hackers comprised a third party provider.

WENY.com reports that "Chinese hackers remotely accessed several U.S. Treasury Department workstations and unclassified documents after compromising a third-party software service provider.

The FBI is also working to see what the impact might be.

The US Department of the Treasury is responsible for things like taxes. "The Department of the Treasury manages federal finances by collecting taxes and paying bills and by managing currency, government accounts and public debt. The Department of the Treasury also enforces finance and tax laws".
