People who love to fish always dream of reeling in a record-setter.  For a man in Albion, he's going to have stories to tell for years to come.

There is just nothing like getting a line in the water on a warm summer day.  It's even better when they're biting!  When you get a hit and you feel that you've got one and you start to reel..it's almost like Christmas morning as a kid when someone hands you a present.  You start to wonder what it could be.  Experienced fishermen can normally tell how big their catch is going to be by the way it tugs on your line.  This one must have really dragged.  It was a monster!

Congrats to Thomas Russell Jr. who can brag that he holds the record for the largest smallmouth bass that has ever been caught in New York State.

According to WGRZ, it was caught on June 15 on Cayuga Lake.  DEC officials confirm that it was an 8 pound, 6 ounce bass and he caught it on a Berkley Maxscent Minnow lure.

The smallmouth was just two ounces heavier than the previous record of 8 pounds and 4 ounces.

"Smallmouth bass are one of New York's most popular freshwater sportfish and it's exciting to share the great news of Mr. Russell's record-breaking catch," - DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos.

For years, people have bragged about the incredible fishing here in New York State.  A few years ago the BassMasters tournament made a stop here on Lake Erie and all of them mentioned that they had some of the best fishing in the entire country here.  If you know where to look, you'll certainly find some monsters here.
