The next time you travel in New York State or through New York State airports, know that the TSA is working hard to keep you safe and that work and their efforts are paying off in a big way. Recent reports indicate that the TSA has taken multiple guns away from travelers.

More than 20 years after the attacks on 9-11, travelers are still uneasy and concerned about safety. What seemed like a chore getting through security has now become the norm. Taking our shoes off and the routine that goes with getting through a TSA checkpoint is standard for travelers and yet, some think they can get through with dangerous weapons.

During routine screenings, TSA officers spotted 23 weapons in 2022, a total that includes seven at Albany International Airport. In 2021, there were 19 handguns caught at upstate airports. As a reminder, passengers who bring firearms to a security checkpoint may face criminal charges as well as civil penalties from the TSA.

The next time you travel, it may be a good idea to go through a personal checklist of what is allowed and what is not? It is so frustrating when you get behind someone who thinks they know the rules or want to argue about their rights with a TSA agent. We just want to get to our gate and our flight on time and without any added hassle.
