August is here and we are that much closer to the next hunting season in New York State. As the summer moves on, many hunters are already planning for the fall and there will be a change to the licenses that we carry.

The summer has been hot! However, with a few downpours mixed in, this has been a good year for food plots and corn fields. There also seems to be deer everywhere you look! Will that translate in to a good deer hunt this year? It remains to be seen.

But New York State is making a few changes to the way that they distribute the licenses that are sold and the tags that hunters will have.

When you buy that 2024-2025 hunting license, it will no be on that plastic/waxy paper you may be used to getting. The licenses will be printed out on paper this year.

According to a post on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation: "Paper License and Tags: Beginning with the 2024-25 hunting season, all sporting licenses and carcass tags will be printed on plain paper. This change begins to modernize the license purchasing process by allowing easier, quicker access to licenses and tags by printing at-home".

There are some who are concerned about moisture from rain or snow affecting the paper licenses. Just pay close attention and keep the tag and licenses in a safe and dry location and use an appropriate pen. Be safe and good luck!
