NO License? No Problem In New York State…For Now
There is a big weekend coming up in New York State, and it might be the perfect time to start a new hobby or spend some time with the family.
The cold weather is back in a big way. After a deluge of rain on Thursday morning, much of New York State is back in the deepest freeze.
However, if you live here, it might be time to embrace the cold and winter months and get outdoors!
ALERT: New Virus Found In New York State
As we make it to the middle of February, New York State is announcing it's first FREE Fishing Weekend and NO license is required!
This weekend through Sunday, you can fish in New York State without a fishing license. It is one of a few weekends this year that will be FREE.
The other free fishing days this year are June 28th and 29th, September 27th, and November 11th.
However, you will need to follow the New York State DEC laws/regulations.
"Even though a license is not needed, all fishing regulations apply. As a result, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Freshwater Fishing Regulations prior to venturing out".
As cold as it is, many will be on the ice when they fish this weekend. Have you ever tried ice fishing? New York State has dozens of great locations for ice fishing. Here in the Western New York area, Lake Erie is a favorite spot, and other places like Chautauqua Lake are popular as well.
As far as ice safety, it is best to be on the ice when there is at least four inches of ice! And like and outdoor activity, have a plan and let others know where you are going to be.
