October 25 is Peak Fall Foliage Date in New York State

Here is when you are going to be able to see leaves changing and the colors the most in New York State.

Football, pumpkin spice and apple picking is all going to be in full force by then.

The peak colors of the trees typically, will change colors where there is a higher elevation or even along lakes.

The most vibrant and impressive colors will happen around the third week of October. In 2023, peak foliage hit around October 25, 2024. NYup.com breaks down where they expect the leaves to change colors. By October 25, all of New York State will be changing. 

Oct. 2-Oct. 7:

• Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Old Forge, Tupper Lake and much of the High Peaks in the Adirondacks
• Hooker and North Osceola in the North County
• Hunter, Bovina Center and Branch in the Catskills

Oct. 8-Oct. 13:

• Windham, Prattsville and Livingston Manor in the Catskills
• Hornell and Alfred in the Southern Tier
• Lake George, Malone and Ellenburg Center in the Adirondacks
• Gouverneur and Lowville in the North Country
• Olean, Ellicottville and Arcade in Western New York
• Fabius, Morrisville and Cooperstown in Central New York

Oct. 14-Oct. 19:

• The remainder of the North Country, including Alexandria Bay and Watertown
• The remainder of the Adirondacks, including Plattsburgh and Keesville
• The remainder of the Southern Tier, including Binghamton and Corning
• Homer, Sylvan Beach and Clinton in CNY
• Saratoga Springs in the Capital Region
• Woodstock and Phoenecia in the Catskills
• Rhinebeck in the Hudson Valley
• East Aurora and Jamestown in Western N.Y.

Oct. 20-Oct. 24:

• Most of the Finger Lakes, including Geneva, Watkins Glen and Naples
• Niagara Falls, East Aurora and Letchworth State Park in Western N.Y.
• Most of CNY, including Syracuse, Auburn, Ithaca and Utica
• Most of the Hudson Valley, including Kingston and New Paltz
• The remainder of the Catskills, including Saugerties
• Albany, Schenectady and Troy in the Capital Region

Oct. 25-Oct. 31:

• Buffalo, Chautauqua and Rochester in Western N.Y.
• Fair Haven, Oswego and Aurora in CNY
• Hudson in the Hudson Valley
