According to the US Coast Guard in Buffalo, boaters are being asked to avoid Babcock Street area due to a petroleum spill that's been traced back to a former ExxonMobil site. Most of the spill has been contained to one part of the river and cleanup will be underway soon.

This comes as Buffalo and Western New York are enjoying one of the best boating summers yet. It was just last month that we set a record for heat in the area. The pandemic and good weather have made sales of boats surge. Much like the RV and camper industry, there has been a rush for people to buy boats and get on the water. It's a great way to stay more than six feet apart and it a great way to get fresh air!

The forecast is calling for the weather to start to get a bit cooler this week. It makes sense considering the Erie County Fair would be in it's final week and typically that signals the unofficial end to summer. However, there is plenty of good boating days left and Lake Erie is very warm! Get out and enjoy it while we can!
