Some forecasts are calling for the first big blast of winter weather to arrive in New York State next week. There is snow in the forecast and in some places, it may be heavy at times. Travel may be tricky on Thanksgiving.

As if the stores won't be busy enough, the forecasts, whether accurate or not, seem to make people panic and panic shop. There are many who will rush to the grocery stores for things like bread, eggs and milk. There is a joke that comes up at times like these about people making french toast with all of these items.

For our family, we like to have frozen pizza, beer, pop and snacks on hand for snow storms. We plan on staying in with our four kids until the storms are over and we can get out an play.

But what is the reality of the forecast? Do you follow any meteorologists on social media? There are some who use a variety of models and science to predict the weather or extended forecast. This one below seems to show that there is a massive snow storm on the way for Thanksgiving week.

Regardless of the forecast or what the reality is of the weather, it is best to be prepared at the house and in your car. As we saw last year, the snow can not only be a headache for travel, it can make it tough for first responders to do their jobs.

There are a few things other than bread, eggs and milk that you can buy or have ready to deal with the snow. It is also a good time to remember to help out your neighbors and check on those with health issues or are older.
