Be Aware: Severe Weather Threat for New York State
To say it’s been warm the last several days would be a vast understatement. It’s been downright hot the last four days in New York state.
Heat advisories were issued yesterday and today in any parts of the state. AC units have been under stress to help us cool down but the good news is that heat slowly goes away on Thursday and is out of here by the weekend.
Unfortunately, we will now have to deal with something we haven’t really had to deal with lately: rain.
Not just rain but the potential for severe thunderstorms, which will be around on Thursday.
The National Weather Service says that the entire state will be dealing with thunderstorms on Thursday but the further east you are, the higher the chances for severe weather.
Heavy downpours, damaging winds and hail are possible in the regions from Central New York to the upstate regions and into the downstairs regions near New York City.
The biggest threat will be damaging wind gusts. These storms can swoop in very fast and it’s important to know they are coming, in case you’re outside or driving at the time.
The timing should be afternoon for these thunderstorms.
We’re just about to the official start of fall. Next week’s weather looks to be far cooler with highs in the mid-to-high 60’s by the middle of next week. It’s been a very hot and downright unpleasant last few days but the end is near.
It won’t be long before we have snowstorms to deal with…
