It was something we learned with Clay and Company on Monday.

Over the weekend, I had killed a snake that was near our house. It was a bigger snake than I have seen around our yard and it took me off guard when I flipped over an old railroad tie.

My buddy was helping me work at the house later in the day and the snake appeared to be still moving. He told me about an old wive's tail or farmer superstition. Snakes don't die until sunset or until it thunders.

I looked it up and here is what I found.

Snakes only die at sunset.Because of a less well developed nervous system a snake's body may continue exhibiting movement for many hours after brain death - or indeed decapitation. These residual muscle reflexes do not indicate life. A snake dies, like a human, when its brain is dead.
