Buffalo gets all the national attention for the lake effect snow the city gets and of course, the Blizzard of 77 was a major talking point for decades.

So if you think Buffalo is the apex for the snowiest day in New York history we wouldn't blame you one bit. The thing is that you would be wrong.

The snowiest day in New York State history came 11 years before the massive blizzard of 77 hit Western New York.

Back in 1966, a huge winter storm swept across central New York, and during that blizzard, the small town of Camden got hit with the most snow ever received in New York in one day.

According to the National Centers for Environmental Information, February 1st, 1966 turned out to be the snowiest day in New York State history. On that date, 50 inches of snow fell in Camden.
