Tonawanda Residents Start Petition To Save Public Pool
If residents of Tonawanda, Kenmore, and Amherst have their way they will still be able to continue to cool off at the Brighton pool for years to come.
Currently, there is a petition on Change.org calling for residents to stand together and save the Brighton public pool. According to the post, there is a proposed plan to turned the Brighton Public pool into a splash pad and used the extra space and turn it into a hockey area.
The YPR Enhancement Project Presentation was shown to town officials on June 24th and the town board is expected to discuss the proposal at their next meeting on July 22nd.
According to the proposal, the project would include the construction of an ice rink, an indoor field house, and a splash pad. This project is estimated to bring in about 87,000 per year based on the town securing a $450,000 bond to fund the project. You can see the whole proposal HERE
Residents who created the Change.org petition state that losing the public pool would hurt the community and that by changing the larger pool to only a splash pad, adults and teens in the area wouldn't have a play to swim, since the splash pad caters to young children.
Having a teenage son myself, I think have public pools for all ages is a great thing. Well, the ice rink and field house would be great for families with kids in sports, what if yor child doesn't like playing sports? They would be losing a chance to be outside and hang with friends at the pool during the hot summer months.
You can voice your opinion by signing the petition, going to the next meeting or by email members of the town board.
