Charlie Daniels may not be the biggest star of today's country radio, however, he is very relevant and present on social media. True, Charlie spends a lot of time on Twitter as is evident in his many thoughts that he shares regarding God, Family, Country and guns in 140 characters or less. Yet, Daniels should be better known for having some great hits over the years on Country Radio and Classic Rock Radio. (Many of which you can still hear on WYRK during Wide Open Country on Saturday mornings and our request shows).

Although he has many moments he can/should be proud of in his life and career, I was reminded that January 19th is the day in 2008 that he was formally inducted in to the Grand Ole Opry.

These days, Charlie Daniels is more vocal than ever about his distrust and disapproval of the way things are done in Washington. And while it isn't always popular opinion, it is his opinion nonetheless and shouldn't be a reflection on, or take away from, any of his credits, accomplishments or awards that he earned during the zenith of his career.

As a fan of the more traditional "blue collar" and "backwoods" style of country music from the past, it's refreshing when stars like Justin Moore or Aaron Lewis feature Charlie Daniels on their albums.I understand that tastes change from generation to generation and one of the aspects of country radio that's kept it on top for so long, is it's ability to flex and progress it's sound/style, but stars like Charlie should always have a place on any country fans playlist.

Congrats to 7 great years with the Opry and decades of being one of the "real deal" country stars Charlie.
