All Is Ready To Go For Tonight’s ACM Awards But What About Blake Shelton?
Blake Shelton says he's ready to host the Academy of Country Music awards -- if they would just let him see the script!
"I still haven't seen the complete script for the show," Blake told The Boot.com on Saturday. "I've seen part of it, and we have taped some of the skits ahead of time, which is the first time they've done that, but I haven't seen the rest of it."
This is the first time Blake has hosted a major awards show. He is co-hosting with Reba McEntire, who is a veteran with the ACM awards, with this being her 13th year as master of the ACM ceremonies. The idea for the two of them hosting the awards came about after they announced the nominees for the ACM awards last year. Apparently, ACM executive director Bob Romeo noticed their chemistry and thought they might make good co-hosts. "They played off each other naturally, and seemed warm and spontaneously funny," he said.
Blake is known for his off-the-cuff comments, and producers might be a little worried about him having control of the microphone in front of so many viewers. Most think Reba can bring him back to reality if he gets out of control, especially since they both have such a great sense of humor.
So does knowing that he's working with such a pro, as far as awards hosting goes, make Blake nervous? "Well I might be if I knew what the script was like," he says with a laugh.
If he's so worried about the script, does that mean he will stick to it? "Probably not," the Oklahoman admits. "I'll probably ad-lib some of it."
Hey Blake, remember if you don't have something nice to say about someone, its best to say nothing at all. Just kidding, have fun!
The 46th annual Academy of Country Music Awards will air live on CBS, Sunday, April 3, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
