Dear engaged couples,

My fiancée and I were engaged last year. We likely weren't ready to officially have a wedding until 2021, but the planning has been put on pause because of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

It's been incredibly disheartening to say the least. We were so happy planning our future wedding this last fall and winter but after the pandemic started and everything (including wedding venues) starting closing (and in wedding venue's cases, still closed), those hopes and plans were put on hold.

I know a few friends who are also engaged who have their plans in the air. I can't even imagine how we would feel if we had a wedding date set this spring or summer and it was canceled at the last minute -- to those couples, I can't sympathize enough.

Right now, there's no date for wedding venues to open up and definite uncertainty for returning to full capacity weddings. They aren't part of Phase 4 here in Western New York and there are clear frustrations starting to surface.

Another factor at work here -- all the weddings postponed or canceled in 2020, likely will get pushed back to 2021, which means bookings will be that much more difficult next year, which is what my fiancée and I are worried about.

Weddings are supposed to be one of the best days of your life and knowing this is out of your control is a horrible feeling.

If you were supposed to get married in 2020 but had your wedding postponed, just know you WILL get that day eventually.

You're not alone and we will get through this together.

Sincerely,

Chris Owen and Ariel
