If only the Buffalo Sabres could convert their scoring chances into goals.  They had plenty of chances Tuesday night in Montreal and they had a goaltender who was playing well at the other end of the ice.  Matt Hackett had stopped 31 shots until the Canadiens finally scored with just over 9 minutes to play.  Former Sabres had a hand in both Montreal goes in Buffalo's 2-0 loss.  Thomas Vanek set up the first goal and Daniel Briere clinched it with a power play goal.

The Sabres have scored only 132 goals for the season and with 10 games left they could break the team's all time record for futility.  The Sabre record for fewest goals in a season is 151.

Tuesday's loss was the 10th time this season the Sabres have been shut out.

The road trip concludes Thursday night in Nashville.
