Are you full yet? Italians seem to enjoy eating more food even after their stomachs might want a break, so it’s no wonder the Italian Festival was just a week after the Taste of Buffalo! There were four more full days (Thursday, July 12–Sunday, July 15) of food to go around in North Buffalo’s Little Italy for the 25th Anniversary of the event on Hertel Avenue. Walking around was a good idea after just “taste-testing” some of the food that was available.
Blistering heat did not keep the crowds from this year’s Italian Festival, and I was no exception.
This foodie needs fried dough from time to time, so Jim’s Fried Dough was a natural for my first stop. Just the right amount of powdered sugar and cinnamon on those little dough nuggets, and I was in heaven!
We’re pretty lucky around here when it comes to food. Oh, sure, the whole world knows about our wings and beef on weck, but Buffalo is home to a lot of really awesome restaurants that serve nothing of the sort. So for a foodie — or just a hungry Buffalonian — there’s nothing better than the Taste of Buffalo.

This July 4th, you have a choice. You can be the guy who drives to Pennsylvania and buys your own overpriced fireworks out of those yellow tents on the side of the thruway, or you can be that smart guy who goes to the real fireworks shows around Buffalo, thereby guaranteeing awesome sights and no injuries. For once, be the smart guy.
Shortly after 10:10 p.m. this evening, Nik Wallenda stepped on to a wire high above Niagara Falls and took the first steps of a journey he’d been preparing for for months. In about 25 minutes, the daredevil walked his way from the United States to Canada on the 1,800-foot long, 2-inch wide cable strung just over the precipice of the Falls.
Today is the big day: At 10:10 p.m. this evening, Nik Wallenda will make his high-wire walk across Niagara Falls. We sent our digital team out to cover all the action, so check back for coverage throughout the day today as we track his progress and check out the crowds. Who know what might happen up in the Falls today.
