The Buffalo Sabres have only 28 games remaining in the 2023-2024 season, with the latest game happening at 12:30 pm today vs. the Anaheim Ducks at KeyBank Center.

The Sabres still sit 10 points out of a playoff spot. The Detroit Red Wings currently hold the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. There's only 27-28 games left, which means the only chance Buffalo has to make the postseason is by going on a massive winning streak.

You may be wondering what the Sabres' playoff odds are right now. They're actually lower than you might think.

Money Puck currently has the Sabres' playoff odds at just 4.5 percent. That means they will likely miss the postseason for a 13th consecutive season. That's tied with the New York Jets for the longest playoff drought in the four major North American sports.

The biggest letdown this season has been the lack of scoring, after the Sabres were top five in scoring last season. The power play has been abysmal, with no plan on most power plays and lack of scoring has destroyed their chances to win games. Five-on-five play has not been that bad, but they need better shot selection and more scoring chances.

The NHL trading deadline is Friday, March 8th. Players to keep an eye on are Kyle Okposo, Erik Johnson, Zemgus Girgensons and Victor Olofsson. All four could be seen as veterans to help fill out a playoff roster.

It's hard to imagine the Sabres will be buyers at the deadline. If they miss the playoffs, fans will want changes.
