April 18, 2013 When you think about modern sports stars, you may think of them owning flashy things. I always picture fancy houses, expensive cars and all the best that money can buy. I'm incredibly encouraged when I see one of those sports stars that isn't impressed with the finer things.
April 18, 2013 It's been an emotional couple days in Boston, and it showed in last night's Sabres game against Boston that regardless of where you come from, what you do and who you root for, tragedies like the Boston Marathon bring people in this country together.
April 17, 2013 It was more than just a hockey game in Boston. It was a chance for the people of Boston to show they will not be defeated by evil. It was a chance for the whole country to begin the healing process after the Boston Marathon bombings. It began with the Bruins fans singing the National Anthem in honor of the bombing victims. And what a classy way to end what turned out to be a great game -- both teams stayed on the ice to salute the fans.
2:45 p.m. (EST): The Boston Police Department has announced that "there has not been an arrest in the Marathon attack." Investigations are ongoing.
2:35 p.m.: CNN is retracting their previous report that an arrest has been made in the Boston Marathon bombings. Other sources are reporting that officials are close to identifying a suspect after reviewing area surveillance video, but no arrests have been made.

April 15, 2013 A nice afternoon at the ballpark for a family in Oakland where the A's were hosting the Detroit Tigers. A foul ball heads to the grandstand, and in a classy move, the guy who caught it passed it over to the youngest of two boys watching the game.
9 p.m. (EST): The final press conference of the day with Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis and various other officials just concluded. The FBI is now leading investigations of the events. Davis confirmed that three people were killed in today's blasts.
CNN is reporting that one of the victims killed was an 8-year-old boy. The Wall Street Journal had reported that as many as five other unexploded devices were found around Boston, but investigators now doubt that they were actually bombs.

A few days ago I saw the story of a courageous 7-year-old cancer patient named Jack Hoffman on the news. I asked quite a few friends if they saw this amazing young man score a touchdown in a recent Nebraska Cornhuskers game. Surprisingly, they said no, though they were curious about a 7 year old playing college football.

Tianlang Guan of China made the cut for the Masters at Augusta Country Club in Georgia after shooting a 3 over par 75 on Friday. It means the 8th grader will play Saturday and Sunday.
